THE SQUARE MILE MAGAZINE INTERNSHIP
For three months in 2014, I undertook an online internship with Licklist. My duties included writing features regarding nightlife in the UK, three of my published articles can be seen below.
Equus is my final project for my MA in Multimedia Journalism. For the project we were tasked with writing a variety of features surrounding a certain theme, which we then used InDesign to put into a magazine layout. I chose horses due to their being a large part of my life and topic of which I had not written about previously. I received a Merit or 2:1 for the project as a whole.
As a part of my Masters, I undertook a Magazine Production module where we were tasked with creating a 72-page magazine from scratch. As chosen Editor and Art Director, I came up with the concept for Wild magazine, including article topics for my team and InDesign templates. As Editor I received an 81% grade for the design. The full magazine is available to view in print.
The Front Page
The style of the entire magazine was inspired by Cereal, which enabled me to come up with this simple, clear cut front page design.
The Staff Page
The concept for the staff page stemmed from my love of polaroid photography. I took a photograph of each staff member on my Instax camera to scan for the page. I also included a QR code which can be scanned to find out more information about the magazine.
I tasked my staff with heading out to find different cocktail bars for this feature, I then chose my favourites and designed the page around the Boroughs of London map.
My Small Feature
Alongside designing the magazine, we each also had to write a small feature and a long feature. I chose to write about Wild Interiors.
My Long Feature
For my long feature, I decided to write a satirical piece on foraging for food in the wild. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this piece as it enabled me to pour some of my happy-go-lucky attitude into my writing.
